Newsletter #5: Seeds of Hope

July 7th, 2020

Hola a todos! Hello everyone!

We hope that you and your families have been well during this time. We at EDUPAVI have been trying out best to power through this pandemic season, and God has definitely been reminding us of His providence and hand in this mission with us. We have so much to update you on!

On June 21st, our team joined in on Educando Para La Vida's 21st birthday celebration, which was held over Zoom! Since 1999, they have expanded their team internationally to volunteers from countries including Puerto Rico, Canada, England, Panama and Costa Rica, who were also at the celebration! It was a beautiful time shared with one another, reflecting on the past 21 years of dedication, determination, passion and service poured out into the communities of Guatemala. We were so inspired to see how God's heart and mission has created an international family that shares the same vision, the same mission, and the same heart for this corner of God's kingdom. That includes you! And we are ever so grateful that you would join us.

Of course, many of you are aware of the Silent Auction that took place on June 27th, and maybe even got the chance to take a quick browse or place a few bids! Planning and organization began in early May by our auction committee, and we were overwhelmed by the countless acts of generosity and support shown before and during the event. You can check out the full report of our results HERE.

In Guatemala, the team began a new pilot project called "Semillas de Esperanza" - Seeds of Hope. This project strives to strengthen families' food security by providing resources (such as tools and seeds), as well as practical education in order for them to successfully create food/vegetable gardens in their homes. There are currently seven families from the program participating in this project, including this mother from a nearby rural village called Rincon Chiquito:

Her husband needed to leave the country to find work to support his family, so she raises her nine children alone with firm character, humility and dedication. Through these resources and structures of support, we hope to sow and cultivate hope, education and responsibility in a new generation.

Prayer requests:

  • Continued prayer for families who are burdened during this time of COVID-19. It may seem almost "back to normal" in BC, but this is not the case for those in Guatemala. Pray for God's providence and grace upon the children, moms and dads who still face many hardships due to the pandemic.

  • For wisdom and guidance for our Vancouver team, that we would be able to navigate the second half of the year while staying true to God's call and vision.

  • For God to continue to grow those seeds of hope in the lives of the families, the staff in Guatemala, and to our local supporters.

Thank you for your dedicated support and love for us. Until next time!

Blessings,
Team EDUPAVI Canada
